Position Overview
The work at UCR is a team sport. As a senior Electro-Mechanical Technician, you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining UCR's advanced robotic systems, test beds, and facilities. Specifically, as a senior Electro-Mechanical Technician, you will be required to perform both mechanical hardware and electronic hardware assembly, integration, and test.
Responsibilities
- Configure, set up, assemble, test and integrate both mechanical and electronic hardware
- Operate various tools necessary for both mechanical and electrical tasks without instruction
- Perform testing, debugging, soldering, crimping, and various other tasks typical of fabrication and integration of mechanical, PCB, and wire harness assemblies
- Use precision calibrated tools including torque wrenches and measurement gauges
- Hands on operations with both large and small mechanical assemblies
- Perform work according to procedures, specifications, and test instructions
- Collaborate with engineers to develop and document systems and operations
- Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications
- Ensure all production services are performed on time, safely and in a professional manner
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment
- Assist in resolving hardware problems in real-time and provide input to prevent recurring issues
- Ensure clean and organized technical work areas
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 3+ years of experience with propulsion, mechanical, automotive, electrical or avionics hardware installation
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs unassisted
Nice to Have
- Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
- Excellent attention to detail and an insistence on permanently correcting errors
- Experience in the aerospace industry, aviation, military or other high-volume operating environment preferred
- A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical drawings, manuals and reports
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and test equipment
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
- Familiarity J-STD-001
- Hands-on experience performing mechanical or avionics installation work on robots, aircraft, or vehicles
- Hands-on experience fabricating harnesses and/or electro-mechanical assemblies
- Hands-on experience working in an ESD controlled environment
- Skill in operating and manipulating machinery and various hand and power tools requiring manual dexterity
- Experience with forklifts, cranes and heavy equipment is a plus
